Lange Nacht der Museen 2006

by andy on October 8th, 2006

So tonight was the “Lange Nacht der Museen” (long museum’s night). You’re able to visit around eighty museums with just one ticket and special transportation means (mostly buses) are provided.

I managed to visit four museums:

  • Naturhistorisches Museum (Museum of Natural History):
lots of stuffed animals, although those were quite interesting it got boring after the 2000th bird
  • Haus der Musik (Museum of Music)
They got a Mozart room but that seems like being its only flaw. The interactive music installations are very enjoyable.
  • Heeresgeschichtliches Museum (Museum of military history)
Lots of uniforms, sabers and old weapons. There are also some posters used by the NSDAP and hitler germany/austria in there. Spooky. Hopefully those and their result will never be forgotten. The killing of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in 1914 ignited the first world war. A cold chill traveled down my spine when I saw his car and the uniform he had worn during his assassination. Another macabre exhibit was the sofa on which Dollfuss died.
  • Observatorium
This was the last station of this nights travels. We were shown a half-hour presentation which was not bad, but not good either.

As fortune plays I’ve met Carina, a friend of mine, on my way home at the subway station. This is another proof of my theory that the more unrealistic an encounter in Vienna is the more likely it will happen.
